The Rottweiler is a medium-to-large, powerful breed known for its strength, intelligence, and loyalty. Originating in Germany, it was historically called the Rottweiler Metzgerhund (“butcher’s dog”), where it was used to herd livestock and pull carts to market.
Today, Rottweilers are valued for their versatility and are commonly used as guard dogs, police dogs, and search-and-rescue dogs, as well as loyal family companions when properly trained and socialized.
